There’s no need to worry if your Levoit air purifier red light comes on. All isn’t doom and gloom, as the red light is merely an indicator of a clogged air filter or bad air quality in your surroundings.

Depending on the type of air purifier you have you can simply reset the red light by holding down a button after replacing the filter.

Facing trouble resetting the red light? This article will help you understand what the red light on your air purifier means and how to reset it.

What does Levoit Air Purifier Red Light Say?

The red light on your Levoit air purifier may be because of a clogged air filter or because your air quality sensor is sensing bad indoor air quality. If the red light goes away when the air purifier has been running for a few minutes, then it’s generally related to the air quality indicator showing the poor status of the indoor air.

This can be accompanied by high fan speeds and high buzzing noises, and the red light turns off within a few minutes.

If the Levoit air purifier red light refuses to go away, it may be because of a clogged air filter that requires replacement. The red light may be blinking, or you may witness a constant red light that won’t turn off. This is what you can do to troubleshoot.

For Blinking Red Light

If your levoit air purifier’s red light is blinking, it is time to reset your unit. It is a call to get a new filter. The embedded air quality sensor indicates the life of your filter, and a good-condition air filter ensures clean air for a long period.

How to Reset Air Filter on Levoit Air Purifier?

Levoit air purifier filter change is easy and requires a few steps only. Follow the steps mentioned below to get your air purifier started in minutes.

  1. Switch off the power button and disconnect the unit from the power source.
  2. Take out the filter cover of the air purifier.
  3. Remove the old filter from the section and discard it properly.
  4. Clean dust and other visible airborne pollutants with a dry cloth or vacuum hose. If your filter is washable, it is best to wash it with clean water.
  5. Pre-filter cleaning is advised after every 2 to 4 weeks. Activated carbon filters shouldn’t be cleaned but replaced after every 12 months.
  6. Get the new true HEPA filter. It is advised to only invest in a genuine true HEPA filter to ensure the air quality in the long run.
  7. Replace the filter cover.
  8. Connect the power cord and switch on the air purifier.
  9. The air quality indicator light will automatically turn on. If you fail to get it, do a long press on the filter reset button for a few seconds until the display lights turn on. Press it again to switch it off. Your unit should now start working correctly.
Remember, Levoit filter light is a nifty feature best for maintenance of filter and helping you keep an eye on its life.

How to Reset Levoit Filter Light?

Even if changing your levoit air filter doesn’t help, or you have a new Levoit air purifier, try resetting the levoit air purifier red light with the three simple steps mentioned below. However, if the problem persists, try following the same method but with your unit switched off. Some advanced Levoit air purifiers offer to reset filter lights with their smart vesync app. The Vesync app offers control over many other features too.

  1. Turn on the air purifier and find the filter reset button on the unit.
  2. Press the reset button for 3 to 5 seconds until the red display lights turn off.

For Constant Red Light …

Sometimes the red light, even after changing the air filter or resetting the light, won’t leave you alone.

If it has maintained its appearance for a long period, then there is a high chance that dust and other large particles have found their place on the sensor. To ensure you clean it perfectly and don’t cause any damage, follow the troubleshooting guide shared below;

  1. Turn the unit off and remove the plug to avoid harm during the procedure.
  2. Remove the cover of the dust sensor. Every Levoit air purifier has a different site for its dust sensor. Use the manual to find it out.
  3. Use cotton soaked in plain water to clean the dust with gentle strokes.
  4. Finish it by removing the excess water with a dry cotton swab.
  5. Close the cover and plug in to see if the red light is fixed.
  6. If not, leave it for half an hour and recheck it.

Other Reasons: Why Display Light Turns Red?

If nothing works mentioned above, then one of the below shared might be one of the reasons why your display light turns red. Other reasons why your air purifier is blinking red include the following:

Low Battery

If your air purifier is left with no or less charging, your air purifier will start blinking red. This is a reminder to keep your unit charged and fully functional.

Ultrasonic Air Humidifier Nearby

Ultrasonic air humidifiers shouldn’t be placed with Levoit air purifiers. The dust sensor detects large mist particles, changing the indicator to a red ring, showing poor indoor quality. This affects the accuracy of the air purifier. Another way is to switch off the auto mode of your air purifier.

Motor Out of Order

Usually, an out-of-order motor is accompanied by whirring noises, unpleasant smells, and smoke. Sometimes, even your newly bought Levoit air purifier can show smoke and be a victim of malfunctioning motors.

Dirty Fan

A dirty fan can cause a change in fan speed and hence, air purification. To save yourself from any further damage, it is advised to clean your fan a few times a month with a damp cloth. It highly depends on your surrounding air quality.

Display Glitches

Rare, but there are chances that your display shows glitches. It might show a red light when nothing is wrong and gets off independently. Sometimes, after replacing a filter, the light won’t turn on automatically. In such a case, press the filter reset button.

Replaced it with Old Filter

Some people buy HEPA filters from third-party sites because of their low-cost comparatively. However, little do they know, most of them sell used old filters, which within no time need replacement again. Replacing the unit with old filters can cause the red light to blink.

Beeping Unit

At times, the unit constantly beeps for no good reason, and that is where you need to hop in to push the filter reset button.

Levoit Air Purifier Color Code – All You Need to Know

When you turn on your air purifier, it takes 5 to 30 seconds to detect the air pollutants and air quality. Every air purifier, as shared above, is equipped with an indicator light. The automatic sensor detects the air pollutants by infrared light and changes from the default blue color (low speed) to another within a few seconds, depending on the indoor air quality.

Levoit’s red circle indicates that the air purifier has detected high levels of air contaminants. If auto mode on your levoit air purifier is on, the fan will switch to the highest speed till the red icon changes to blue, green, or yellow color. If your auto mode is off, manually adjust the fan speed.

The auto mode allows the air purifier to adjust the speed accordingly. The lower the air quality will be, the higher the fan speed will be. Here are other colors which your Levoit air purifier can show:
